Before I disappear on my hols, I wanted to share James and Sarah-Louise’s wedding story with you. In October last year, they followed family tradition and married in Looe at the beautiful St Wenna Church, and a reception at Barclay House. Here’s their story and some fab photos by Barney Walters…
{the venue}
We got married at St.Wenna church, Morval near Looe. As well as being local to us this church has been a Deakin family tradition for generations. Our wedding reception was held at Barclay House, Looe consisting of a wedding breakfast for the day guests who were our family members, followed by an evening reception for the additional guests who were our friends.
{what they wore}
I wore a customised satin ivory dress of a simple fishtail design. James, along with his bestman, ushers and fathers of bride/groom wore pale grey suits with lime green cravattes, hankies and even socks!
{colours & themes}
Our colour scheme was ivory and lime green, with a contemporary theme. This was acheived by having the place names written on granny-smith apples, simple ivory/white table linen with green sashes and single stems of tall green gladioli set in vases amongst fresh limes. The linen/sashes were provided by Ambience Venue Styling.
{the flowers}
My bouquet, along with all our venue decorations, was desinged by Amanda Randell, Freelance Event Florist. It was a small posy (as I am only a tiny 5’1″) which incorporated our colour scheme of ivory and green.
{cake}
My auntie made our 2-tier cake, a traditional fruit cake with ivory icing, which was decorated by our florist Amanda.
{what they ate and drank}
Our wedding breakfast was a 3-course sit down meal. We wanted it to reflect the time of year being late summer/early autumn so the starters were a mini ham-hock ploughman’s with picalilly or butternut squash soup. The main course was a chicken dish with local scrumpy cider veloute or Looe Bay mackerel with a chilli tomato jam. For dessert we had lemon posset trifle or bread and butter pudding. At the evening reception we had a buffet consisting of miniature versions of the wedding breakfast dishes, along with various salads, cold meats/fish and of course not forgetting the traditional Cornish pasty!
{the photographer}
Our wedding photographer was Barney Walters – a superb up-and-coming young photographer who we can not reccommend highly enough!
{the party}
The evening reception was spent dancing the night away on the terrace at Barclay House to a Motown singer, CJ Jackson.
{the honeymoon}
We didn’t actually have a honeymoon as much to our surprise and happiness we discovered I was pregnant 3 days after the wedding! Instead, we are planning to holiday this year in late September/early October to celebrate our 1 year anniversary along with both of our birthdays on 2nd and 6th October.
{after thoughts}
What was your favourite part of the day?
Our favourite part of the day was simply celebrating with all our family and close friends, in our hometown and being blessed with the hottest day of the year!
What advice would you give to others planning their wedding?
Our advice to other couples planning their wedding is not to get stressed/upset as this puts a lot of strain onto the relationship. We had a lot of let-downs during the planning stages of our wedding including both our original venue and suit hire company going into liquidation (which meant we lost our deposits) to our orignal singer falling ill and no longer being able to perform! However, we have discovered that the saying ‘everything happens for a reason’ is so true and we actually ended up with a much better wedding than any of us had expected!
Anything else you’d like to add?
Enjoy and relish every minute of your special day while it lasts as it goes so quickly and before you know it, it will all be over!
