cornwall wedding blog - pasties and petticoats

A guest post from Georgie at The Big Beautiful Bunting Company

Thanks to RNAS Culdrose in Helston, Cornwall provides the backdrop for many a naval wedding, and with diamond jubilee fever in the air I have been feeling a little whimsical about our national maritime heritage and daydreaming about the old style glamour of naval weddings and romances.

Queen Elizabeth the Second married a man in naval uniform, as did the beautiful Lady Diana Spencer. Lady Hamilton also famously fell for a man in uniform but what really was it that swept them off their feet?  The allure of his naval jacket adorned with beautiful ribbons and shiny medals? The prospect of being whisked off into the sunset by a hero? Both those things are enough to make any girl shout ‘yes please’ but as the wife of a seaman I can sincerely vouch for the fact that a man who loves the sea is usually an old fashioned romantic and you can’t wish for more than that when you’re planning your way up the aisle.
